Footballing fashionista and sporting ambassador David Beckham has had a career of many twists and turns. In between lucrative promotional deals, the 40-year-old has found time to promote ‘the beautiful game’ in the US.
Beckham’s bid to build a Miami ‘soccer’ stadium has had as many twists and turns as his career, and his mission has taken him years so far, but looks like it may finally be coming to fruition. The former England captain and LA Galaxy star sent his partners to meet with officials on Friday to reach an agreement, the Guardian has reported.
Sun Life Stadium, home of the Miami Dolphins, is one of the most notable arenas in Florida
The deal would allow the construction of a privately funded 25,000-seat arena, dedicated to a Miami-based Major League Soccer (MLS) franchise, adjacent to Marlins Park – home of the Miami Marlins baseball team. Miami mayor Tomas Regaldo labelled the deal as a “milestone” and Beckham’s partner Marcelo Claure said described the encounter as a “great meeting” via Twitter.
The stadium is arguably the next chapter in Miami’s renaissance, which is seeing a reshaped skyline and new hotels via entrepreneurship and private fudning.. We documented Miami as a destination almost a year ago, when there was nought but a question mark over the MLS stadium deal. Perhaps the recent win for Team USA at the FIFA Women's World Cup is changing even more hearts and minds across the Atlantic.
Great meeting with @Tomas_Regalado we have presented him our intentions to bring Futbol and a New soccer stadium in the former Orange Bowl.
