Nestled between two mountain ranges, in the heart of the Namibian desert, Ultimate Safaris’ Camp Sossus aims to redefine immersive exploration and luxury. This semi-arid oasis offers just six tented guest rooms and provides a striking alternative to traditional lodges and camps in the Sossusvlei area. Sustainability is at the core of the eco-chic tents with roofs crafted from oxidised oil barrels and furnishings fashioned from reclaimed Oregon pine – materials otherwise destined for landfill. Inside, large west-facing windows and south-facing doors allow natural cooling by the prevailing afternoon winds, and spacious twin beds, and semi-open-air en suite bathrooms offer a sense of place with hot bucket showers.
The crown jewel is the magnificent feather star bed sitting atop the deck of each room, where guests can fall asleep under starlit skies. In keeping with the intimacy of the camp, a family dining table concept is applied to meals which can also extend to private dining around the campfire and on the deck under the stars. Outdoor enthusiasts can partake in adventures like biking with a guide on Mountain Plus bikes, nature drives to learn about the intricacies and complexities of the ecosystem, nature walks on foot, and a Sossusvlei excursion to the UNESCO World Heritage site at Deadvlei, and the giant dunes at the Namib.
