Exploring the secretive world of Italy’s ancient palaces, opulent castles and rambling estates buried deep in the countryside require insider access and few are better positioned to unlock the doors to these hidden worlds than Alessandro and Giacomo Cavazza de Altamer.
The two brothers, whose family has owned significant holdings across Italy since the 17th century, founded luxury travel company Beyond The Gates to give visitors a taste of Italy’s historic houses, and introduce them to the owners, artisans and craftsmen whose passion helps to preserve these monuments to Italian history.
The company designs bespoke itineraries with a focus on art, architecture, culture, cars or food and wine, as well as insider-access dining and cooking experiences. Guests will stay in unique historic houses and villas where they will have the chance to meet the influential families who own them, and spend their days enjoying unique experiences, such as private concerts, bespoke driving tours or private meetings with the best artisans and craftsmen in Italy.
Inspired by their engineer grandfather Novello, who dedicated his life to the preservation and restoration of historic houses, the brothers maintain a network of some 200 properties including their own family home. The Castle of Tabiano is a magnificent estate between Milan and Parma, which includes a medieval village and four country villas available for short breaks and longer stays.
