The Event
Expo Milano 2015 is a non-commercial Universal Exposition with some very unique and innovative features. Not only is it an exhibition, it’s a process, one of active participation among a large number of players around the theme “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life”. It is sustainable, technological, thematic and focused on its visitors. The giant exhibition site, covering one million square meters, will open from May 1- October 31, 2015. The idea is to open up a dialogue among international players on key challenges facing everyone: guaranteeing the right to food and water, ways to increase food security, new solutions to preserve and enhance the planet’s biodiversity and more. The events, shows, conferences and meetings that will explore the themes of Expo Milano 2015 over the six-month duration are expected to stimulate the conversation between visitors and participants.
Ambience
The difference, this time, will be Italy itself. Our country is a wonderful and inspiring one, and Milan offers all sorts of attractions. According to the New York Times, Milan is the top destination in the world in 2015. Our city offers art, culture, history, food, fashion, and design. We expect more than 20 million visitors from around the globe and we have already sold more than eight million tickets.
Rub shoulders with
We expect around 180 delegations from around the world, with a hundred of Chiefs of State, Prime Ministers and global leaders. There will be many “special days”. Our agenda hosts already 140 National Days and on June 2, there will be the “Festa della Repubblica Italiana”, and the Italian President Sergio Mattarella will attend.
After Dark
For the first time, the Expo site will be open late at night. In Milan, for instance, the Teatro Alla Scala (Via Filodrammatici, 2, Tel +39 02 88791 www.teatroallascala.org/en) will perform concerts and operas every night during the six months of the Expo. I suggest checking the programme, for example, of the Arena of Verona or the Egyptian Museum of Turin. With the new fast train railways, Italy is at every visitor’s fingertips.
Stay
Milan boasts an impressive selection of luxury hotels and top star restaurants. But there are also interesting options nearby, in the surrounding region: Turin, the Cinque Terre and Como Lakes.
Dine
Besides the numerous options in the city, let me remind you that on the Expo site we will have the opportunity to taste all the cuisines of the planet.
Must do
The Italy Pavilion will host more than twelve events daily for a total of two thousand two hundred events, with over two-hundred-thousand expected visitors. The “Palazzo Italia” will be a place of encounter and dialogue. The concept revolves around the idea of “Vivarium”, symbolising the growth of future generations. Tied to the evocative symbolism of the Tree of Life, it is envisioned as a metaphor for “know how” and “Made in Italy” as a platform for food quality and the Mediterranean diet. Italy has historically been a meeting place for all civilisations and has created successful international food models loved by everyone. In this capacity of exchange, hospitality, innovation, amalgamation and creativity lies Italy’s rich and manifold identity.
