Rail operator JR Kyushu has said it is targeting mainly female passengers with a new 'Sweets Train' service on its Omura Line in the Nagasaki Prefecture, connecting to the Kyudai Main Line.
Locally made confectionary products and desserts will be the focus of the trip, as well as selected high-end teas and coffees, according to each route.
The service is expected to start rolling in 2015, though specific routes are yet to be determined, according to Japan Daily Press who also cites the growing popularity of luxury train services in Japan.
The island of Kyushu already has a luxury sleeper train, Seven Stars in Kyushi, which explores the picturesque island by rail. Known in Japanese as 'Nanatsuboshi', the train's three-night itinerary costs up to 1.13 million yen (US $11,400) per couple and is already fully booked until June 2014.
The ultra luxe train cars were designed by Eiji Mitooka, who has also been tasked to redesign existing carriages for the upcoming tasty train ride. Ticket costs have not yet been announced.
