Work has begun on a comprehensive expansion plan for Porto Montenegro, almost doubling the marina's available berths from 245 to 430. The expansion will be completed by the summer of 2014.
In the heart of the Adriatic Sea, the marina and homeport provides full yacht and superyacht services, adjacent to the waterfront village.
Porto Montenegro will complete the second phase of its development over the next two years. Around 50 percent of the new berths are designed to house yachts of up to 20 metres, and 145 berths will suitable for vessels of 25 metres or more.
When completed in mid-2014, Porto Montenegro will not only be one of the largest yacht harbours in the Mediterranean, it will have one of the biggest capacities for superyachts in the world. More than 50 of the new berths are designed for yachts over 45 metres in length.
“The expansion of the marina is not only a testament of success for Porto Montenegro, it also confirms that the Adriatic has cemented itself as an exciting destination for yachts of all sizes and classes,” said Tony Browne, marina director.
“The new berth mix will appeal to both ends of the yachting market, especially for the super and mega-yachts that will soon be supported by the new state-of-the-art maintenance and refitting facility,” he added.
The marina expansion comes at a good time, with the most recent summer season seeing an average operating capacity of 102 percent.
In June this year, Regent Porto Montenegro is set to open its doors in a Renaissance-style building on the waterfont. The five-star property will add 35 rooms and 45 suites to the port's luxury accommodation portfolio.
