Abadía Retuerta LeDomaine will transform the 868-year-old estate’s former stable building into an innovative new spa facility.
Due to open summer 2015, the new El Santuario spa will offer 10,000 square feet of facilities, including a new ‘vinotherapy concept’ and the hotel’s own spa sommelier.
The sommelier will be on hand to guide guests through the spa experience, offering customised treatments, as well as conduct a “blind tasting ritual” that comprises a selection of oils, wines and other beverages.
The so-called vinotherapy treatments are designed as an indulgent alternative to the resort’s more traditional wine-tasting experience, with the spa sommelier responding to individual wellness needs and guests' aroma preferences.
The expansive spa will be kitted out with four treatment rooms, equipped with a Finnish sauna, steam bath, ‘experience shower’ and hydrotherapy pool.
“El Santuario will be one of Europe’s great spas, offering the highest levels of luxury, guest service and individualisation,” said managing director Andres Araya. “We are breaking new ground in personalisation with the introduction of a Spa Sommelier and treatment programmes based on a blind tasting ritual.”
There will also be classic treatments, such as massages, body scrubs, body wraps, facials and grooming. But, where requested, treatments will be blended with ‘authentic, indigenous rituals’ based on the traditions of the local region and LeDomaine’s own renowned 500-acre wine estate, according to the hotel.
Abadía Retuerta LeDomaine opened in 2012 following a complete restoration and has already proved itself as an innovator in luxury services. The property began offering Google Glass to its patrons earlier this summer, adding a technological twists to its rustic aesthetic. It was also the first hotel in Spain to offer a full butler service.
