When you think of a decent club sandwich, you probably have thick white bread, moist turkey and crispy lettuce in mind – but do you think caviar?
A survey conducted by Hotels.com this month used the price of a classic club sandwich as a barometer of affordability, ranking countries across the world based on the average cost of the ever-popular sandwich.
After hearing that Geneva, Switzerland was the home of the priciest sandwich in the world (US $47), Hullett House hotel in Hong Kong decided to go one better, and teamed up with Hotels.com to create the ultimate luxury sandwich.
If you can part with US $60, you will be treated to a deluxe sandwich featuring some of the world’s most expensive ingredients, put together by the culinary team at The Parlour restaurant.
The bulk of the sandwich consists of A5-grade Wagyu beef and Balik salmon, which costs around US $165 per kilo, sandwiched between three slices of lightly toasted bread minus the crusts.
The list of fillings continues with sliced black pork bacon, Iberico ham, Belgian figs, sliced Roma tomato, Romaine lettuce, French chicken, organic egg and green asparagus.
Of course, this would be no luxury sandwich without one inevitable addition – Beluga caviar. Know as one of the world’s costliest caviars, the delicacy will set you back nearly US $10,000 per kilo.
“The Club Sandwich frequently appears on hotel menus across the globe, but the creation from Hullett House shows how you can transform a staple into a work of art with a few luxurious ingredients!” said Alison Couper, director of communications at Hotels.com.
The luxury club sandwich will be available at The Parlour restaurant at Hullett House until August 31.
