One of Taipei’s first and foremost luxury hotels is celebrating its silver anniversary with the unveiling of a major renovation.
Twenty-five years after its debut, Grand Hyatt Taipei marked its April 23 relaunch, which saw major upgrades to all of its 853 rooms and suites, which range from 33 square metres, all the way up to the new 221-square metre Presidential Suite, which boasts a clear view of Taipei 101 Tower.
Bathrooms have been clad in marble along with deep soaking tubs, while rooms have been bathed in more ambient lighting, muted colours, with goose down duvets now a feature on every bed.

The hotel describes itself as having a less formal vibe, evidenced by the check in process. Where hotel staff once greeted guests from one side of a high, grandiose counter, staff and guests now congregate at low-slung desks ‘for a less officious introduction’.
There are also two completely new restaurants; signature Chinese restaurant, Yun Jin, and The Steakhouse – each a completely new concept with a ground-up build. While Yun Jin debuted early in February, western fare will be dished out at The Steakhouse later this year.
“With this re-launch, in terms of rooms and restaurants, we’re now a brand new property,” said Kai Speth, the hotel’s general manager. “But with a 25 year history in this same location, we’re also the most seasoned hotel in the city. We’ve got the best of both worlds.”
