From Salvador Dali’s annual winter sojourn to The St. Regis, New York, to Claude Monet’s fruitful stay at The Savoy in London, artists have long been drawn to the hallowed surrounds of luxury hotels. Hotels, in return, have long supported the arts with residence programmes for up-and-coming talent.
The tradition continues at Auberge Resorts Collection, the design-driven US brand that counts some of the most prestigious hotels in the US among its number. This summer, the company has teamed up with global art consultancy MASSIVart to launch Auberge ArtSalon, a series of artist residencies and immersive installations at six Auberge properties in the US.
To kick off the series, multi-disciplinary artist Marie-Claude Marquis and Texas-born artist and photographer Delaney Allen have each unveiled destination-inspired installations at Mayflower Inn & Spa in Washington, Connecticut and Commodore Perry Estate in Austin, Texas (respectively).
The artists were given free rein to come up with thought-provoking, destination-focused installations celebrating the unique character, heritage and setting of Auberge properties, creating immersive artworks that invite moments of reflection for guests.
“We believe in creating impactful art experiences that bring people together. We also think that now is the ideal time for hoteliers to think more innovatively by incorporating art and cultural experiences in more unexpected ways,” said Philippe Demers, founding partner and global creative director, MASSIVart.
Four more residences will be launched throughout the year at Auberge properties in Napa Valley, Telluride and two in Los Cabos, Mexico.
