Hotel Café Royal has tastefully celebrated the 200th anniversary of the birth of Queen Victoria. The Queen of Afternoon Teas celebrates Hotel Café Royal’s historic status as a leading London location for afternoon teas. The menu offered savoury and sweet dishes utilising ingredients, recipes and production techniques that came into fashion during Queen Victoria’s reign.
The culinary team will pay homage to the era and the Empress herself with a curried corn-fed chicken with raisins to mark her influence in India; a rose and lychee mousse with raspberry jam inspired by Victoria’s preferred scent of Bulgarian roses; and a vanilla blancmange pastry and orange jelly palette cleanser, both of which were invented during her reign.
