It may not be the pinnacle of luxury, but it could be quite a page-turner. It seems Japan has a solid reputation with quirky and out-of-the-ordinary innovations. Book and Bed, however, is more about literary appreciation that cutting-edge technology.
Bibliophiles are being invited to come and sleep within library stacks at the ‘novel’ boutique Tokyo hotel, due to open next month. For some, books are a sure-fire way to induce sleep, but others devour chapter and verse to fill their dreams with drama and fantasy.
Either way, we can’t wait to find out more about Book and Bed. Born out of collaboration between Suppose Design Office, Shibuya Publishing Booksellers, and real estate boutique R-Store, the hotel in the Ikebukuro neighbourhood will fuse most endearing elements of a modern library, grand bookstore and quaint hostel.
According to the website, bookandbedtokyo.com, the hotel is based on the concept of dozing off while doing something you love and providing a space with “appropriate bedding” where you can do just that. We’re left wondering whether it would be bad etiquette to bring a Kindle?
