Here’s looking at owning a piece of cinematic history. The famed piano from Hollywood classic Casablanca will be the gem of a film memorabilia sale at New York’s Bonhams auction house in November.
The 58-key upright piano is played by Dooley Wilson in the 1942 film. The actor and singer is best remembered for his rendition of "As Time Goes By", which is the beloved song of on-screen couple Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman.
The instrument is expected to fetch a seven-figure sum, Reuters has reported, and will go under the hammer as part of the sale by Bonhams and Turner Classic Movies (TCM) on November 24.
Another piano that featured in the film’s Paris flashback scenes was sold at auction for $602,500 in 2012.
A total of 30 Casablanca artefacts make up the private collector’s lot, including the nightclub’s interior and exterior doors. In addition, signed photographs by the film's cast members will also go on sale.
