The unveiling of the $4.19 billion Terminal 2 is news enough, but Heathrow has ensured travellers will get a pleasant taste in their mouths before embarking on their flight.
While "The Queen’s Terminal" sees a staggered soft launch, new Heston Blumenthal opening The Perfectionists’ Café will be fully open from June 4.
The eatery takes its inspiration from the celeb chef’s In Search of Perfection television programmes, which sought to reinvent British dishes with the infusion of some creativity.
"You cannot achieve perfection as it’s entirely subjective,” said Blumenthal. "The point is, you will never be quite satisfied. It's an endless pursuit, but when you add to the mix a bit of our quintessentially British eccentricity, that’s when the fun really begins.
"For me, The Perfectionists’ Café is about the realisation of that journey in an actual café; it's about everything we questioned and about harnessing the very excitement of that journey for the diner," he explained.
The Perfectionists’ Café will present a selection of not only the UK’s most popular dishes, but favourites of the busy traveller, dishes that by their very nature are best cooked at speed.
Famed for pioneering the use of liquid nitrogen in restaurants in the late nineties, Heston Blumenthal's The Perfectionists’ Café will also celebrate the chef’s love of ice cream with a very modern ice cream parlour.
The ice cream bar will have two steel cylinders that hold liquid nitrogen, pumping it to the ice cream maker. With a subzero temperature of -196°C, the nitrogen freezes the custard so quickly that the ice crystals that form are minuscule, producing a very smooth product.
The Perfectionists’ Café is located on the upper level of departures. It will be open seven days a week from 04.30am to 11.30pm, or the last flight of the night.
