A new superyacht destination and luxury resort is now in the works in the southern part of the Central American isthmus nation. The deep-water marina at Costa Rica’s Golfito Marina Village & Resort will eventually boast 130 slips with dockage for ‘gigayachts’ up to 100 metres in length.
Golfito Bay is tipped to be a safe haven for high-rolling seafarers, due to open around October 2015, but will also be developed as a premium vacation spot. The luxe Honeymoon Beach Villa will serve as the premium option of an array of villas, across three floating islands.
And as well as the typical pastimes, the resort’s main hotel will be decked out with an open-air spa and nighclub. The marina is also angling for to host future sport fishing tournaments.
The development is underway shortly after a survey named Costa Rica as the top destination that holidaymakers would recommend to friends. The Global Tourism Monitor Survey asked travellers to identify countries visited in the past 12 months - and the likelihood they would recommend the destination based on personal experience.
The study polled 23,000 people across 26 countries, listing Tunisia in last place out of 65 countries.
