Three brothers from Girona are celebrating this week after winning what is arguably the most coveted prize in the restaurant business.
Spanish restaurant El Celler de Can Roca has regained its title as The S.Pellegrino World’s Best Restaurant after losing out to three-time winner and perennial Danish contender, Noma.
The celebrated restaurant was opened in 1986 by brothers Joan and Josep, alongside their parents’ humble restaurant in Girona before Jordi completed the trio in 2007. According to critics, their food is matched with an ambitious array of wines and finished with a selection of Jordi’s magical masterpieces – the youngest brother also holds the esteemed title of World’s Best Pastry Chef.
The Roca trio accepted the accolade ahead of a trip to Buenos Aires, Argentina, to launch a second gastronomic tour, which will see them travel through Argentina, the US and Turkey throughout the summer.
"It was a magical moment experiencing the same feelings as two years ago,” said Joan Roca. “This recognition makes us very happy, but it is above all down to our team, which is unquestionably the best in the world, and all those who have supported us all this time. We will endeavor to carry the title responsibly".
