He’s an actor, producer, musician, film-maker and now add to that: a Jaguar ambassador.
Idris Elba and Jaguar, two British icons, recently teamed up for a road trip into the heart of Germany in the new XE. The trip covered four countries in three days and most of the videos have now been uploaded to YouTube.
The Wire actor made the 1,200km trip in wintry conditions while documenting his journey on film. One of the key themes was testing the fuel economy of the new saloon and getting to grips with the technology, driving aids and entertainment system.
"My work takes me around the world, but I rarely have the time or luxury of getting behind the wheel for myself,” said Elba.
“I wanted to do this trip and record the experience through a series of short films. I have long been a fan of Jaguar's incredible sporting heritage and have been truly impressed with how the brand has evolved over the past few years. It's a real privilege being the first person to take the new XE on a significant road trip across Europe.
In the second instalment of a four-part film series, Elba reviewed the performance capabilities of the Jaguar XE 3.0 Petrol 340PS by taking part in a high-octane test at Spa-Francorchamps Circuit in Belgium with the help of F1 racing legend Martin Brundle.
The XE is powered by a range of four-and six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines offering a blend of performance, refinement and efficiency from 99g/km CO2 to 250km/h. The full short doc will be shared in late February, with teaser footage released in the meantime.
