Feeling festive yet? If not, this'll help.
Whether it’s dripping in gold or artsy and edgy, we have the low-down on some of the most impressive Christmas trees around the world - even if they might not fit in your home.
The Emirates Palace 42-foot Christmas tree
It was in 2011 that Abu Dhabi’s Emirates Palace shattered the world record for the world's most expensive Christmas tree – the hotel erected a US $11 million edition that year. But, if you ask us, this one looks very similar indeed.
This lavish tree is the focal point of the sizeable winter wonderland-themed atrium at the hotel. It took a team of 20 staff a total of 36 hours to decorate the tree, as you can see in this magical timelapse video:
The Dolce & Gabanna Christmas tree at Claridge’s – London
For the second year running, D&G has donated a deluxe tree to the iconic London address – quickly becoming a tourist attraction in its own right.
The eight metre-tall tree is adorned with hundreds of hand-painted blown glass spheres that illustrate London’s landmarks, and the surrounding ‘enchanted forest’ is teeming with woodland animals. Read more here.
That wasn’t the only high-end hotel to go all out on a tree. Take a look at what’s gracefully adorning the lobby at The Savoy:
The Venetian Macao says it with baubles
This bauble-heavy tree sits pretty in the lobby of The Venetian Macao. The autonomous region of China and erstwhile Portuguese colony is bombarded with tourists year-round, but the Cotai Strip is looking particularly festive right now - thanks to this guy.
The Fendi Christmas Tree – Rome
Sometimes good things come in small packages. This diminutive designer tree from Fendi is a tribute to the excellence of Italian craftsmanship. Recreating the festive feeling of the brand’s headquarters, the five metre tall tree is made of 350 gold and silver Baguette bags lit-up by micro flash and strobe lights, located in the courtyard of Rome's Hotel de Russie.
The floating Christmas tree – Rio de Janeiro
This 85-metre tall tree is the largest floating tree in the world and arrived with a bang in Rio. For the 19th year running, crowds packed out the waterfront to see the 542-ton tree unveiled amid a dazzling firework celebration.
The event is now the third largest occasion in the city’s calendar. For a more in-depth look at the spectacle, check out this video:
