The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company is swinging to win with its first golf resort in China. The company will open a new property on the tropical island of Hainan in late 2015, located near the provincial capital, Haikou.
The 201-room Ritz-Carlton, Mission Hills resort will include 21 private villas, as well as The Haikou Mission Hills Golf Club. The project includes 10 world-class golf courses and will be the largest public golf complex in the world.
"Our first golf resort in China marks a new chapter of growth for The Ritz-Carlton and sets the stage for expanding our resort and golf portfolio throughout the region. Like other Ritz-Carlton world-class golf facilities, we expect this new addition to attract luxury travellers and golf enthusiasts from across the globe," said Herve Humler, president and COO.

Haikou, nicknamed "Coconut City", has seen a resurgence as a hub for business and tourism, and the Haikou district has become known for its white shores, now home to China's national sailing and windsurfing teams.
There is also a plethora of nearby historic sites, such as The Temple of Five Lords, the Tomb of Hai Rui and the Xiuying Emplacement, which are a testament to the region’s seafaring legacy.
The AECOM-designed hotel will include five restaurants and bars, a Ritz-Carton Spa and extensive leisure facilities including tennis courts, two swimming pools and a recreation pavilion.
