It was 1977 when Bond villain Karl Stromberg plotted world dominance from his underwater kingdom. A generation and aquatic abodes are once again en vogue – and a little more grounded (so to speak) in reality.
Portable private islands are not just an answer to population booms and global warming, they’re apparently very chic indeed. This new concept from Migaloo comes in five different guises, the most expensive offering a "jungle deck with palm trees," spa, beauty salons, gym, "shark-feeding station" (sure), and a helipad.
Owners of the island, known as Kokomo, will be treated to 360-degree views within the penthouse, which can be accessed by an 80-metre elevator. The portable haven concept will eventually be used for luxury hotels, businesses and perhaps even offshore gaming. The islands will, of course, be tailored to the client’s needs.
