Lizard Island, a self-contained national park on the Great Barrier Reef complete with its own luxury resort, will reopen for guests March 1, 2015, following planned refurbishments and repairs from the impact of Cyclone Ita.
The 10-square kilometre island was overwhelmed by Ita in April 2014, which delayed the opening of some new luxury additions, but the destination will have full facilities and services available by April 1, 2015.
When the island and its eponymous national park reopens for tourists, a new uber-luxe stand-alone suite will be available at the resort. The Villa will feature two en-suite bedrooms, a butler’s kitchen, plunge pool and wrap around deck. The 95-square metre residence sits on a ridge with unhindered views of Sunset Beach and the Coral Sea.
The Pavilion (pictured) will also return with its private gazebo and plunge pool, but will be expanded with a new lounge that offers panoramic views of the Coral Sea. The nearby Sunset Point Villas will also have private plunge pools added.
The Island’s Azure Spa has also been relocated to provide additional space for treatments, and a dedicated manicure and pedicure room has been added. The spa will also be adopting France-based La Biosthetique products.
Hecker Guthrie was chosen to re-design accommodation interiors, using the views from each room as inspiration for the designs.
Interiors now integrate with the surrounding natural environment and colour palettes combine with the tones of the Reef - including coral, blue and gold.
